3 Things to Do When Feeling Lost













Who knew 2020 was going to start off like this?? It has only been three months! The uncertainty is definitely real and scary. We are now in a time where self reflection is necessary because what else can we do? Before the world came to a sudden halt, my life was already at a stand-still. In the beginning of the year, I decided to leave my "stable" 9 to 5 job to do "my own thing," but the only thing was I didn't know what doing "my own thing" was or what it looked like. Who does that, you ask? Me, Miss Risk Taker. During these last few months of self reflecting, I've learned a few things about what to do when you feel lost and how to move forward in uncertainty. Let's dive in.


1. Talk it Out


Talking out your thoughts, feelings, and desires to someone you trust is helpful. Talking to someone not only feels good, but the person you're talking to may hear something that helps you connect the dots to your path. They can also give you a different perspective. There was one night, I was so frustrated with my lack of direction, I sat in my car for hours crying and trying to figure out what my next steps were going to be. I decided to call a friend and they stayed on the phone with me for as long as I needed to help me find clarity. In that conversation, along with plenty other conversations after that, my vision was getting clearer. If you don't have someone to talk to, record yourself or journal, it helps. Talking it out helps you discover your truth.


2. Be Honest with Yourself


Being honest with yourself is a real task. You have to let go of that ego and false self and get real with you. You have to truly dig deep about what you want in life. Ask yourself questions like, what makes me happy? How do I want to live? What would I do for free? Questions like these help with direction. It's not fun living your life in limbo, so you must do the inside work in order for your outside reality to change. Inside work requires a few things. First, you must get still. When you get still and quiet, that's when God talks to you. There are answers in stillness, trust me. Meditation is a great practice in learning stillness. Next, stop listening and watching what other people are doing. Everyone is on own their own path. It's ok if you're not where you think you should be, you're right where you suppose to be. We live in a world full of abundance, you will get what's yours. Lastly, be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. You're doing the best you can with what you know to do. Speak positively about where you are and where you want to go. Words are powerful, you don't want to say anything that you don't want to show up in your reality. Move towards your happiness.


3. Take Action


Take action that brings you joy, that makes you excited about being alive. Take actions that bring you energy and do not drain your energy. Sounds easy, but this has been the most challenging for me because it was difficult to focus beyond my circumstances. How do you focus on joy when you don't know where your next check is coming from? I learned to fight against my uncertainty and take small actions daily that excite me. I'm still in this process, you're reading my actions now. Let joy be your driving focus, not money. One day you will look up and you're living the life you always wanted.
